RULES & POLICIES

Here are the rules… Select the appropriate tab for your league.

OPEN ROSTER POLICY

Coed 4s teams are allowed up to 8 players on the team’s official roster. Coed 3s teams are allowed up to 6 players on the team’s official roster. For a player to be eligible to sub on a team during playoffs, that player must have played on the team AN ENTIRE MATCH (2 full games) during the season AND listed on the team’s roster. The eligible roster players are the only ones permitted to participate on that team during playoffs. At least 1 person from the original team (the players who paid) must be on the court at all times during playoffs.

Players may participate on only 1 team in a league during playoffs, but may be listed on multiple rosters. Captains may
add/delete players to their roster on LeagueToolBox until the last week of season play. After that, no changes can be made to the roster. Players should be added to the roster AFTER they play on a team. During playoffs, teams may only challenge a player’s eligibility prior to the start of a game. No post-‐game player eligibility challenges or complaints!

RAINOUTS

Unless otherwise stated, the 1st rainout will be played after the last week of season play pushing the playoffs back  one week. 2nd & subsequent rainouts may be rescheduled on a weekend. ALWAYS CALL WHEN IN DOUBT ABOUT A RAINOUT.

EXCESSIVE RAINOUTS/HOLIDAYS

Any combination of the following may happen.  A.) No ‘week off’ between leagues.  B.) Playoffs   may be scheduled on a weekend or alternate day. C.) A week of season play may be cancelled. B & C are the last resort actions.

ENDING ON TIME

At the time matches are scheduled to end, the team that is ahead at that point will win the current game.   Matches must end on time, regardless of when they started late. Teams waiting to take over a court should inform the teams playing on that court if their game is running late. Teams that wait quietly on the sidelines are giving their court time away!!

LEAGUE FEES

All league fees are due in full on/before the first night of play, regardless of whether or not the player is  present. At the end of the second week of play a $10 Late Fee will apply to unpaid league fees.

STARTING ON TIME

At 10 minutes past the match time the team causing the delay forfeits one game of the match.  At 30 minutes past the match start time, the team causing the delay forfeits both games of the match.

NO SHOWS

MARK ON THE SCHEDULE WHEN A TEAM NO-‐SHOWS/FORFEITS!    1st time – warning.  2nd – suspended from the following league & not eligible for playoffs. 3rd – removed from current league (no refunds/no playoffs), & suspended from the following league.

SCHEDULES

League schedules are posted on League ToolBox. Players will not receive updated schedules via email.

GAME RULES

A.) A block DOES NOT count as a hit in 3s, 4s & 6s.

B.) Players cannot receive serves open-‐handed.  Palms must  touch.

C.) COED 3s Comp, COED 4s Int & COED 4s Up Int. – 1 toss/serve. COED 4s Upper Rec & COED 4s Rec – 2 tosses/serve.

D.) COED 3s, COED 4s Int & COED Up Int: Hard driven balls may be received open-‐handed. ‘Hard-‐driven’ balls are delivered in a straight line from a high point to a lower point, regardless of the speed of the ball. There is NO ARCH in a hard-‐driven ball. (applies to 3s Comp, 4s Up Int & 4s Int only)

E.) Hand sets – COED 3s Comp & COED 4s Upper Int 2 ½ rotations, COED 4s Intermediate 3 rotations, COED 4s Rec & Upper Rec – must be able to read the name of the ball (approx. 4 rotations).

F.) No open-‐hand dinks.

G.) Rally Scoring.

H.) Let Serve applies to all leagues (ball can touch net on serve).

I.) If teams are at an impasse it is an automatic REPLAY.

ANTENNAS

Without antennas, balls are played BETWEEN the poles. Balls are ‘live’ if they hit the wires, ropes, wooden dowels, net, etc. then land within the court boundary. If a ball touches the pole, crank, pole pad or lands outside the court boundary it is a dead ball.

DEAD BALLS

Dead balls & the grass/Obstacles: If a player comes in contact with the ball before their foot touches the grass, it is OK. If either foot (or anything else) comes in contact with the grass before the ball, it is a dead ball. The ‘berms’ (raised areas around courts) are part of the grass even if they have sand on them. Players may not play balls off of obstacles. Obstacles include catch nets, umbrellas, tables, chairs, ball stops, people, trees, or anything else. Players may play balls from the sand between connected courts.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated!    Players may not berate, yell at, curse, make any physical contact/threats, or kick/throw balls at their opponents. Players exhibiting excessive unsportsmanlike conduct will be removed from the league & possibly suspended from Third Coast. Report unsportsmanlike conduct to BRANDEE THAMES at play@thirdcoastvolleyball.com. When reporting an incident please be prepared to supply the names of at least 2 witnesses.

We reserve the right to modify, add, or delete any League Policy at any time for any reason!!
